Kachin Association of Australia 2nd Combined Camp

It has been two years since KAA’s first Australia wide combined camp was successfully taken place in Sydney 2009 December 27th – 29th. The decision was made to have the next KAA Combined camp in Melbourne in 2011. It was also agreed by the KAA members that the KAA combined camp to be held every second year. Subsequently, as of that time members of KAA in Melbourne brainstormed and elected leaders in organising the best camp they can potentially host.

The nominated Camp Director Jasmine Barnetson Hkawn Nu came to the conclusion of the KAA Combined Camp to be held at Forest Edge CYC, Neerim East, Victoria, Australia. The duration of the camp was for 2 nights and 2 days (December 27th-29th) although time was limited we were able to have programs related to our tradition and culture. For all the Kachin ethnic families and people to take part in this Combine Camp demonstrated great unity of the Kachin’s living in Australia.

As mentioned earlier in shadowing the decision of KAA camp to be held every second year, it has been officially announced that in 2013 the 3rd KAA Combined Camp will be in Queensland organised and hosted by Queensland Kachin Community members.

The purpose of KAA Combined Camp is to maintain Kachin language, religion, culture, and tradition in Australia also to deliver on to the future generation. It is also to engage a superior supportive relationship between Kachin’s in Australia.
